Emotional Description:

Emotionally, Caleb is all fun. (You have to have a really good sense of humor to work with fire lizards). Laid back and honest, he usually walks around with a smile on his face. He has an open, very approachable demeanor and the only thing that he really takes seriously is his teaching. A man of many friends and many one time flings, people find him very charming. For lovers, he enjoys the company of other men exclusively.

Physical Description:

Caleb is a young man of 27 with a round face and smiling light blue eyes. His hair is blondish brown and while he is a little heavy-set, he is incredibly strong. Most of the time he can be seen with a leather case around his arm to protect it from unknown fire lizard claws. While his own lizards are very well behaved, he often handles others that are not so well trained. His arms are pocketed with pin-point scars and a couple longer slashes from those other Fire Lizards.



Brief History:

Born in Bitra Hold, Caleb's parents were always unknown to him. He was taken in by a foster mother who was overworked with to many children and Caleb sort of got lost in the shuffle. A quiet, shy boy, he would often hide out and stick to himself. As he had no real ambition for craft so he was declared drudge material. Caleb's quiet demeanor, but strong body had him excelling in his work. He found himself slightly bored, but mostly content in his job.

One chore had him supplying meat to the lucky participants of a fire lizard hatching. Fire lizard clutches were rare up in the hold so this was a large event. During the hatching, the eggs seemed to crack all at once and in the confusion Caleb found a very young bronze going after the meat he held in his bowl. Acting rashly for once in his life, he picked up the bronze and fed him from his hand. Impression was made.

He named the little bronze Tweak for the noise the fire lizard made when he was getting oiled. Almost immediately Caleb noticed that he could decipher Tweak's confusing images and emotions better than the others could with their newly impressed fire lizards. While he had no special telepathic ability, he did have a knack for getting his fire lizard to obey his commands. When Tweak grew up a little he delighted in teaching him new tricks.

Some people in the hold started to notice his proficiency with Tweak and started asking him for assistance with their own fire lizards. Teaching others about a subject he suddenly had passion for helped break Caleb out of his shell. The Lord Holder knew of his skill and supported it, and while Caleb never officially apprenticed, he did study with the local Beast Healer about Fire Lizards for two turns. There, he got a practical education but the majority of what he learned was through his own experience with his own Fire Lizard and through teaching other people's pets.

Caleb found that there was a great need for more education among fire lizard owners. Many people had them, but few truly knew how to take care of one. He saw them as complex animals, and not just a shoulder ordainment as many people wished for them to be. So over the turns, Caleb started to develop and education plan for potential and current fire lizard owners at all ages. He started charging for his group classes, saved up his marks and bought a runner. From there he struck out on his own and journeyed from hold to hold, teaching what he knew. It was a very lucrative living and he was doing very well for himself.

Along the way he picked up another fire lizard, a blue beauty he called Tag. He also came across a young woman named Nevanae who he befriended quickly. At this time, Caleb had been considering traveling to Evenstar Weyrhold as he had been traveling from Hold to Hold for a long time and the Weyrhold offered something different. As soon as he expressed his plans to Nevanae she demanded, rather than asked, to go with him.

He took her along, thinking she would be an excellent apprentice. Caleb soon learned, however, that Nevanae had no interest at all in fire lizards. In fact, she flatly refused an egg that he offered to her to get her started on he training. He ended up impressing the egg himself and came away with his dainty little green girl, Shell.

Despite the fact that Nevanae had no patience at for Fire Lizards she had a shrewd, clear headed mind even in the face of an emergency. Instead of Caleb randomly wandering from one Hold to another she mapped out a plan and he sent his own Fire Lizards ahead so that their arrivals were anticipated rather than a pleasant surprise. Business picked up even more, and throughout the course of a turn they slowly made their way towards Evenstar Weyrhold.

Finally they got to the point where the two of them caught a ship towards the Weyrhold. Caleb can't wait, seeing this as a new chapter in his life. He had spent a turn and a half straight traveling and he was weary. Evenstar is a place where he can settle down... for awhile.

Pet Species: Bronze Firelizard

Pet Description:  

From a very small egg came a very big bronze (at least for a fire lizard). Tweak's hide is a single shade of goldenish brown, but he packs in some size and some weight. Caleb makes sure most of his weight is in muscle mass as Tweak enjoys many treats. He's fairly intelligent and enjoys showing off. Caleb likes to use him as his star example in most of his classes. He's used to demonstrate obedience and advanced tricks. They've worked together a lot and their bond is very close.!

Pet Description:  

Tag is a light blue, very pretty lizard. He's medium sized and has a mind of his own. He's not as much of a devoted pet as Tweak is and only is shown in Caleb's classes when he comes around. Most of the time, Tag is off on his own socializing with other fire lizards or going off on his own adventures. While Caleb and Nevanea were journeying he enjoyed flying overhead, keeping out for danger. But now that he's at Evenstar Weyrhold he's mostly bored and often disappears for days at a time, exploring.

Pet Description:  

Shell is the youngest and smallest out of the three. A dainty dark green, she has yet to experience her first flight yet. She is fairly intelligent, but very passive and enjoys sitting in the same room as Caleb, watching what he is doing. Caleb uses her in his classes to demonstrate how to take care of a fire lizard's hide as she loves nothing more than to be touched and petted and oiled. She's has much less energy than Tweak, and is also sometimes used as a demonstration tool for younger children because she's gentle.
