Emotional Description:

Riven is studious, intelligent, and serious, yet she is a daydreamer; she tries to always be calm and collected, yet is prone to outbursts.

She shows only the studious and responsible part of herself to others, preferring to keep the sensitive dreamer locked away deep inside. She does not come off as cold or indifferent, though, because her natural compassion shines like a light through her. She gives the impression of being a stable, responsible healer whom anyone can trust.

Responsibility is important to her. When given a task, she prefers to complete it earlier than it needs to be done. Work is more important than play, but when work is over she allows herself to relax.

Riven dreams of meeting the man of her dreams, someone to love her and be loved by her for eternity. She believes in 'the one'. While not as puritanical about sex as most holdbred females, she does believe it is special and not something casual.

She is compassionate and very empathic. She is able to judge someone and subtly, unconsiously, change herself so as to make anyone comfortable with her. This is a tremendous asset in healing, but it can cause her major problems when with a group of people.

Because she is a healer, in service to others, Riven is often seen as someone who is easy to dominate or be lead. Not so. She is actually ambitious, striving to reach a high rank, though ambition does not overrider her compassion. She will be lead, respecting those wiser than her, but has no small share of leadership ability and is willing to step into the shoes of leadership.

Physical Description:

Long black hair, skin well tanned, eyes of changing shades of blue, small and fineboned but strong, and only 5'4, Riven looks unassuming. However, she has a projection of personality that causes people to take her seriously.

She has a well-developed bust that looks absolutely perfect on her. Her hips are slim, as is her body; she is well toned and muscled. She has a body the envy of many, though she knows it not.

Brief History:

Riveenata, who goes by Riven, was born at Igen Weyr. She was fostered to her mother's sister, Lady Holder of a small cothold beholden to Igen, almost immediately after birth. Her foster mother was a healer, and so the young girl learned much of healing.

Riven became adept at doing her duties as fast as possible while doing them well. Whenever she was done, she would sneak to a small spot that was hers. There she would read books of healing lore and daydream of being one of the best on Pern. Her relatives considered her strange for it, but did not mind it all too much.

When she turned 12, she apprenticed to the Healer Hall, which was not a suprise, considering how much she had read and learned about healing before she'd gone. The Turns at the Hall were the best of her life; she not only did something she loved, but did it well.

She recieved notice (in her 17th Turn) that her foster family had sickened with the plague. She begged to be allowed to visit and try to help. She arrived back home just in time to see the last members alive succumb; one of her foster sisters, who she'd loved dearly, died in her arms despite Riven's best efforts. The Cothold where she'd grown up was no more.

Shaken, she returned to the Hall. Her desire to help people had changed, though by no means diminished. She realized she couldn't really handle some kinds of healing, and began to explore other branches of it. The Hall itself had lost much of its attraction for her, though. She was haunted by uncomfortable memories and thoughts.

Though she was still turns away from becoming a journeywoman, she begged to be transferred to the Healer Hall at EvenStar Hold when she learned her older sister was there. She pointed out she could still learn there, and that her only family still living (besides her parents who she did not know) were living there. Her sister came back to the mainland to help Riven plead her case. Eventually her pleadings were accepted and she was allowed to transfer.
